HD PVR là thiết bị ghi hình HD đầu tiên trên thế giới cho phép ghi hình nén H.264 trong thời gian thực độ phân giải lên tới 1080i. HD-PVR ghi hình thông qua đường component video (YCrCb) nối với truyền hình HD qua Setupbox,
tích hợp sẵn IR blaster cho phép thay đổi kênh để đặt lịch ghi. Audio có thể ghi qua ACC hoặc Dolby Digital.
Định dạng Video là AVCHD có thể dùng để ghi vào đĩa Blu-ray DVD. 2 giờ ghi HD 5 Mbits/sec có thể ghi vào đĩa DVD tiều chuẩn 4.7GB hoặc đĩa DVD-RW để chạy trên đầu phát Blu-ray DVD.
Ngoài đường vào Component để ghi HD Video, PVR-HD có thêm đường vào composite và S-Video cho phép bạn ghi hình từ máy quay hoặc đầu phát SD.
