How to set up SPDIF passthru to external decoder?
SPDIF paththru depends on the decoder doing the job. So it's really simple to adjust. Of course, there should be a proper audio driver/directx and h/w setup in your system. SPDIF settings in the preferences of KMP only have an effect on the case of internal audio decoder. In case of external audio decoders, you should set it up properly in the property window of the audio decoder to use.
The following screenshots are the typical settings of some audio decoders.
The default AC3/DTS decoder of KMP is AC3filter. You can refer to the documentation of the AC3fitler.

You can try internal audio decoder for spdif passthru. There can be a problem depending on system.
- Reset the player in preferences
- Select "SPDIF" in AC3/DTS speaker settings.
ps. Do not select "SPDIF" in the Rest speaker setting. It won't work. The 2nd, 3rd screenshots below are optional for the AC3(DD) output of the rest audio formats like mp3 etc to an external receiver.
C) SPDIF passthru using cyberlink audio decoder etc
If you have a commercial audio decoder that supports SPDIF passthru in your system, it would be the best solution for SPDIF as long as you have at least a problem. It must be properly registered (installed) in your system.
- Reset the player
- Call "External Decoder Search" and Scan the decoder registered in system
- Select the decoder to use and configure it.
SPDIF speaker setup must be done individually in the property window of the selected decoder (3rd screenshot).
ps. It depends on the decoder provided by 3rd party software like PowerDVD, WinDVD, or etc.
D) SPDIF passthru using Gabest audio decoder
- Reset the player
