2.Amazing Multimedia Player
The Mede8er straight out the box impressed me tremendously, it just feels so good. You can see and feel the unit is built very well and is solid.
After opening the unit I started connecting it and was quiet surprised to see a good quality HDMI cable in the box (i guess I'm used to either not getting one or getting a cheap ****ty one) and it had component cables in the box which helped for my other room.
The big test was actually using the unit, the UI is really impressive and definitely the nicest I have seen compared to anything on the market. It looks good and is very easy on the eye in my dark room which is often a problem with my other players after a while the UI starts to hurt my eyes.
I then hooked it up on my network and started testing the BIG MKV files the 20 and 30 GIG files. They played one after another it was amazing. I then went down to a file that my computer and my xtreamer won’t play and it played it flawlessly with no staggering at all. The amazing part was I could even fast forward big MKV - H264 files without the unit hanging and this was impressive as most of my other units hang up when I try fast forward other network.
I then tried my AVI collection that my Mvix unit had problems with and I couldn’t believe it, it played every single one with no issues what so ever.
I was completely blown away, I can now eventually watch my movie collection without changing players.
The only file I had a problem with was my BD ISO files which I have 2 of and unfortunatley these did not play. I asked Sanji about this and they promised a firmware update coming soon will fix this and Mede8er will support BD ISO. If they get BD ISO support then this unit is set without doubt my favorite pick.
One thing that drivers me mad is fan noise and the Mede8er concerned me as it had a fan. However after running the unit I was very happy the fan is not noisy at all. MY DSTV PVR fan drives me mad. The Mede8er fan is nothing to worry about at all, really no noise from there. Don’t know what the guys did but the fan is not on screws like my other players it is on black rubber things don’t know if that is why it’s quiet but hey it’s quiet so I’m not complaining.
I must say this unit is my best media player to date, the best R 2500 I have spent in a long time.
The wife no longer phones me at work saying she can’t play this file and this doesn’t work, since I hooked it up I haven’t had one phone call from her complaining.
Really I must say I am very impressed. Smiley Wink Cheesy
I have a few more things I would like to test such as my HD camera video files and still picture quality, however I will try test this soon and let you guys know how it goes.
3.Mede8er rocks!
What a show!
Very responsive, excellent playback, very nice feel to the remote. I still find new features after 2 weeks of having it.
I have bought 2 other expensive players the past 2 months but I am only keeping this one !
At last, a player that is not stressed to its limits trying to do ordinary things like playing media.
I have peace of mind now........
4.Amazing
This is the most amazing media player in the world. The Words greatest show in the world could not be more Truthfull.
After year of using defirent types of players and PC media centre this product whips them all. The interface and simplicity of the controls is amazing. And just plays everything not having problems with codecs with a Movie data base of over a thousand movies it makes life a bliss and very impressive to all whom hass seen it so far. The big plus is Mede8er is listening to the forum and is noticed already on the Beta release V1.2 of it UIG and the changes they have made to the programing of suggestions made by the forum.
This Machine is a blast and will Elevate your Life by owning one of these babys. And a bargain....

5.Amazing Brilliant
What a machine. I bought my Mede8er with a 2Tb Seagate HDD and cannot believe how fast this unit actually is. I have had a few media centers but nothing touches or even remotely touches the way the Mede8er handles playback. Fast and reliable scrolling through my MKV files and no jumping or skipping. Wow guys, we finally have a multimedia machine that outruns a workhorse. Well done to Sanji for developing something this exciting.
I did have one issue though. I bought the unit at BH Photo in Sandton and the unit I got had a scratch on the plate that you remove to put in the hard drive, it also looks like it has been touched up with paint. I phoned Martin at B and H and he was extremely helpful on the phone. He offered to send a driver to swop the unit for me at my work or home. I never wanted a new unit though because it works beautifully but just thought I would mention this minor issue.
Please also inform me as to when you might release a PVR version, hopefully one that is not as crappy as the MVIX PVR i have. Would love to have a record feature of a higher qulaity even 720p will do. Smiley
6.MPCClub's Realtek Top 5
Well done to the Mede8er team on achieving 1st place in Hi-Jacks Realtek Top 5 - an outstanding achievement considering they are up against some of the world's top brands and are a newcomer to the media player market.
In short, Hi-Jack's comment: "It's simply more mature"...

Great Product - Well Done!
Hi Guys,
I recieved my Mede8er today and I must say suitably impressed.
I wrote an unpacking and initial thoughts post over at Mybroadband which you can read here Mede8er - Locally manufactured and distribted media player it includes pics of the unpacking Wink
The only thing I did notice is that on the underside of my player, the hard drive plate had a small scratch 2.5 - 3mm long which had removed the paint but someone at the factory had touched it up manually. I mention this just as a QA issue on manufacturing. The hard drive plate I am sure is a low cost item, and it should strictly speaking have been removed and replaced.
But I am really micro nit picking now, cause there was nothing else to moan about Wink
The delivery was spot on, the installation was a pleasant experience and I was up and running in minutes. All in all, I must say WELL DONE lads.
Not only is it great to have this product locally available, but it also feels great to be able to support and purchase local products. I originally was going to buy the Popcorn hour C200, but at the last minute decided to buy the Mede8er. Im really glad I did too Wink
13.Mede8er - First Impression
My mede8er arrived today: very quick shipment indeed Smiley
The first impression is very good: from the extra goodies that are not usually available in other products (a carry bag, a usb cradle and an HDMI cable) to the sleek remote.
The unit is small and very silent: it boots very fast too.
The interface is quick and simple enough.
Good job Sanji.
14.Mede8er - super mediaplayer
I got my Media8er last week. I found it when I was searching for firmware updates for my old media player (they were more than a year old so I figured there was probably a newer one available)
It was in a list of product reviews and the look of it, and the high grade it got, caught my eyes.
I searched for more reviews and I landed on the Mede8er forum. And that flipped me over to the Mede8er side. I saw a very good and fast response and a very active firmware improvement release frequency. That and the file type support and other specifications made me decide I also wanted to own a Media8er. Now that I have it I must say it is even better than I thought it would be!
I had two questions about some functionality issues and posted them on the forum. Within an hour I received the answers. The moderator even gave me a tip right after I joined about my username and that it would be better to choose a different one so I am very happy about the Medi8er and with the support. Keep up the good work!

I don't think this review from Tx Daily has been posted yet on the forums.
A quick quote from Eben Trollip's Review...
"There are a few media players on the market but to date I have not even considered getting my hand on one of them.... I am pleased to say that I have found a media player worth looking at. This nifty device is called the Mede8er MED500X."

20.First impressions from the land of the Vikings
Greetings everyone!
I am the lucky bastard Grin from Sweden who won a mede8er
at mpcclub. Mpcclub is for me the place to share experiences with other
media player users and I find the admin (Hi-Jack) and his staff very
supportive to its members and fair in their reviews of different products.
They also forwards consumers opinions to the different companies because
not every brand/company has a forum like mede8er forum there you directly
can discuss with the developers.
According to mede8er1 this makes me the first official owner of a mede8er
in Europe. Yeah! Cool That makes me indeed very privileged and I feel that I
want to share some of my first impressions of my new toy. Keep in mind
it’s not a review, just some personal opinions.
The only other media player I have tried is Dvico:s well known Sigma based
Tvix 6500. The Tvix have given me hundreds of ours of pleasure, viewing
mostly movies in MKV:s and TV series in DivX. I really think the 6500 is a
great player, but over time there has been some annoying bugs - HDMI hand
shaking problems, broken samba server, noisy fan, and a few others. Dvico
has released new firmwares now and then, mostly Betas or
"pre-releases". For a while it felt like some bugs were
corrected and some new introduced with every new firmware version. Despite
the mentioned bugs I am and have been very satisfied with the 6500.
I haven’t tried out every feature of the mede8er yet, so this is my initial
impressions after only a few ours of testing. The installation of the unit
couldn’t have been easier. I just hooked up the player to my AV-receiver
via HDMI, connected a network cable to my gbit router (no need for gbit in
this case) and the power chord to a free outlet (finding a free one was
the hardest part). After switching the unit on it took 20-25 seconds for it
to boot which felt pretty fast.
I find the graphic user interface clean and functional (no Swedish menus
though ...yet) Wink . Personally I love the look of the Tvix 6600:s
rotating/revolving interface (as seen on YouTube) but mede8er is not far
behind visually and the menus is crisp looking in HD and very responsive.
I think the settings menus are very easy to understand but I don’t know
the reason why you have the option to choose visible screen size when you
already marked that you have a 16:9 1080p screen. The network setup is
very straightforward and you can choose between DHCP and fixed IP. I
choose the fixed IP and there was no problem to get a connection. I also
choose to set the NAS (Samba) to ON to enable the possibility to transfer
files from my PC to the mede8er:s internal drive. Yes, my prize included a
500 GB pre-installed drive! On the drive there were a lot of demos installed
so I could check picture quality and other features without having to
install other media files before I could try it out. However, I have to
start save money for a 2 TB drive as drives have a tendency to never
have enough of space.
I think the picture quality on movies and pictures are very good. Maybe
The picture quality on Sigma based players is slightly better than Realtek
ditto but I don’t find it quite as obvious as people on other forums
do. Personally I have to test a few more movies before I can really tell
if there is a difference. Every movie I have tried so far has played very
well, no stutters and no problems with audio. I also got the high-speed
WiFi-dongle (lucky me), but have not tried it out yet. I don’t know if it
can handle WPA2 but there is settings for WPA in the menus so I am going
to try it later on. With wired network I have some strange problems to see
shared maps on my pc from the mede8er, or more correctly I see the folders
but not the content of the folders. I have no clue why, and I am not sure
if the mede8er is the one to blame. Wink
The mede8er is less noisy than my Tvix and that is a big advantage. It’s
not completely silent but the noise from the fan is on par with the noise
from the hard drive. My first meeting with the mede8er is a really
pleasant one. I am looking forward to some enhancements in the user
interface and some new features in coming firmware but I think the mede8er
is already a very competent product and great value for money. If Sanji
continues supporting this product and continue to have a dialogue with its
users I am pretty sure the mede8er will be a great success in Europe too.
Kind regards
Ormbett
