We recently mentioned the rumor about HDI releasing yet another unit with two hard drives and we can now confirm, it's true... The Dune HD DUO will be based on the same layout as the MAX but instead of a BD drive on the left hand side and HDD on the other end, it will hold a HDD on both ends. How it all looks can be seen from the attached images. With the Dune HD DUO HDI has released no less than 6 new players in 2 months, the Pro, the MAX, the DUO, the SMART D1, H1 and B1 and off course the Lite53D.
The DUO is tailored towards customers that want more disk space internally. Although the disks will not work together in some form of RAID, it allows customers to load up to 4TB in data occupying both slots with a 2TB hard drive. If any additional cooling is foreseen is unknown. The price tag is okaish with €349 and the unit should come available around end of December, early 2011.
It goes without saying, also the Dune HD DUO will be sharing the same firmware engine as the previous units. As with the MAX, the DUO can be equipped with two additional tuners for which the slots are already integrated and we hope by the time of release, also those will become available of the firmware will support all the extra's which isn't the case at this time.
How we know for sure:
We detected a DUO image on a Russian site and contacted IBDL, a distributor located in the Netherlands responsible for EU as far we know. They confirmed after checking the Russian site the news has been leaked and is valid after which we scanned HDI site and found the following images:
