- Does Playon!HD support DTS Downmix to Stereo
The Playon!HD will support DTS Downmix from mid August onwards. More information about the release will be posted on our blogs and on this FAQ.
- Why do you not list DTS Downmix support in your specifications?
Because in this firmware that is in the shipping Playon!HD, DTS Downmix has not yet been implemented. As a standard practise, AC Ryan does not list not-yet-implemented features in specifications. We believe in "What you see is what you get". Further development plans in future firmware are bonus extras which are extra gains for the existing owners. From mid August onwards, we will officially list DTS Downmix in our specifications.
- Does Playon!HD support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA?
Yes, Playon!HD supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA passthrough via HDMI to your external HDMI processor / amp.
2. HDMI
- Does the Playon!HD support 1080p / 60Hz?
Yes, the Playon!HD is a Full HD player, and fully supports 1080p / 60Hz
- Does the Playon!HD support 1080p / 24HZ?
Yes, the Playon!HD is able to output video at 1080p / 24Hz for TVs which are able to display 1080p / 24Hz mode. Kindly select HDMI auto and set your TV Display at 1080p / 24Hz mode. 24Hz is technically a lower refresh rate than the higher 50Hz and 60Hz but has been specially adopted by some televisions to match the 24fps (frames per second) that most Blu-ray movies are produced in.
- Why is the 1080p / 24Hz setting not seen on the HDMI settings in the setup menu?
Beta versions of the Playon!HD firmware had the 1080p / 24Hz setting as one of the selections. However, in pre-shipping user tests, many general users were confused by the 1080p / 24Hz setting as most TVs do not have this setting. From the user test feedback, we moved the 1080p / 24Hz setting into HDMI-Auto setting so that when a TV supporting 1080p / 24Hz is connected and set on 1080p / 24Hz, the Playon!HD will automatically be set at 24Hz.
NOTE: We have since received many user requests to have the 1080p / 24Hz setting specifically available in the setup. It is very likely that the 1080p / 24Hz setting will be back in the setup in the next firmware. here it is...
- Is HDMI cable included?
All Playon!HD are delivered with FREE AC Ryan's HIFX Evolution ValuePack HDMI 2m cable. - Can Playon!HD display simulteneously more screens each on its various video output connectors?
Yes, you can connect 3 TV screens each on the HDMI, Composite and Component video output.
The Composite ouput will display in PAL/NTSC (auto) irregardless of resolution settings in the Playon!HD. This means you can set Playon!HD at 1080p/60Hz for your LCDTV connected on HDMI, and on your Composite output you can connect a 2nd (cheaper? older?)TV screen irregardless what resolution it supports. For Component output, the output will be in the resolution set in the Playon!HD.

- FLAC 24/96 (24bit / 96KHz)?
Yes. Playon!HD plays FLAC 24bit / 96KHz audio files, considered by some as high definition "Studio Master Pro" audio quality.
About FLAC - FLAC is the most popular "lossless" audio - it compresses without removing any data, while most mainstream popular formats (MP3, WMA etc) achieves smaller more portable files by dropping data that according to the audio professionals "cannot be heard by human ears". But for archiving / backup purposes you may not wish to lose data, that's when a lossless format is very useful and the most popular is FLAC.
- WAV 24/96 (24bit / 96KHz)?
Yes. WAV 24/96 is uncompressed while FLAC 24/96 is compressed so it is a smaller file. Since FLAC is a lossless audio format, the same file in WAV and FLAC formats will have identical audio properties.
- WMA 10 PRO?
Yes.
